Ben woke me at 3:30 this morning to show me sunshine. What a lovely sight! It never gets dark here but, if it isn't too overcast, you can see the sunrise. It was a lovely day to drive and we only had a short day planned.

We could see the mountains running beside us on the right and Kluane Lake on the left. We kept stopping for photos because they were so spectacular in the sun. Our destination was the town of Haines Junction, one of the pivotal points during the construction of the Alcan Highway. It was only noon and we decided it was too early to stop on such a sunny day. The man at the motel reluctantly cancelled our reservation ("you're not being fair to me") and we headed on toward Whitehorse.

In spite of the sun, I was still quite cold so, before leaving Haines Junction, we bought me a sweatshirt jacket with a quilted lining. It fit over the sweater, hooded sweatshirt, and jacket that I was already wearing so I looked a little like Jabba the Hut. But I was warm! (Be sure to see the picture of the young lady who met us in the parking lot of our motel. She wasn’t cold.)

The roads were much better than yesterday and we rolled along smoothly for the 170 miles we drove today. We arrived into Whitehorse around 3:50 this afternoon and were delighted to find that we had both cell phone coverage and internet. However, Ben was checking over the car and discovered a problem with the Tiger Timer that will need to be repaired before we leave town. So, if we are delayed, at least we are in a nice place.
